Excess & Surplus Lines

Above the standard market's tree line.

Excess and surplus (E&S) insurers write risks admitted carriers won't, or won't at the limits you need. We build an underwriter-ready submission and take it there.

Surplus lines policies are written by non-admitted insurers and are generally not protected by state insurance guaranty funds. Placements are made in accordance with applicable state surplus lines laws.

FAQ

Common questions

What is excess and surplus (E&S) lines insurance?

E&S insurance is written by non-admitted insurers that aren't bound by the same rate and form filings as standard (admitted) carriers. That flexibility lets them cover risks the standard market declines, such as high-hazard trades, difficult loss histories or unusually high limits.

Is an E&S policy as good as a standard policy?

It can be, but forms vary more from carrier to carrier, so exclusions and conditions need a careful read. Surplus lines policies are also generally not backed by state insurance guaranty funds. We go through these differences with you before you bind.

What do you need for a construction quote?

Typically: a description of operations, revenue or receipts, payroll by class, subcontracted costs, 5 years of loss runs, current policy declarations, and sample contracts or the insurance requirements you're being asked to meet. Send what you have and we'll help with the rest.

Can you help with additional insured and certificate requirements?

Yes. Send us the contract's insurance section and the certificate holder details. We'll check which endorsements are required (such as additional insured, primary/non-contributory or waiver of subrogation) and confirm whether your policies provide them.

What should I do if I receive a claim or a tender letter?

Contact us right away and send everything you received. Late notice can jeopardize coverage, so we'll help you report it to the right carrier and track the response.
